Camera check out procedures - posted 12/5/23

This morning when I looked in the camera lockers I found the following issues:

Camera Kit #22 is missing and not checked out

1 8mm fisheye lens was in a storage container for a 10-20 mm lens

1 8mm lens was checked out to Austin, I suppose that was the one in the storage container

1 8 mm fisheye lens is missing and not checked out

Mars has a 50mm 1.2 checked out, but it is actually in the locked in the right place

Slyder and Austin both have a 24-70mm 2.8 ($1500) checked out, but there is one in the locker - no idea who has it

1 Canon 70-200 2.8 ($1800) is missing and not checked out

Camera kit #37 (Slyder checked out) is sitting in the back of the room and is complete

Camera kit's #33 (Nick checked out) and #35 (Austin checked out) are empty and are in the shelves outside of the lockers

There were 2 lenses on the wrong shelves.

There was one lens (50 1.2 - $2800) that was put into the storage container sideways and was laying funny on the shelf. It was not close to the edge but it was still something that could have rolled or fallen off the shelf if someone had bumped the wall or slammed the doors somehow.

This happens nearly every single day.

We need to do a better job of making sure we are tracking who has what equipment and where it is at any given time. It takes 2 minutes to properly check things in and out. If you need help learning where equipment belongs or how to store it properly, please ask me. I have been and continue to be frustrated with how the camera equipment is being handled by newspaper students. Please do better!!

The Directive Fall 2023

It's time to get some people working on the Directive. We have to get this publication out before the end of the semester. A small group of people I asked to work on this product have been working hard to plan and prepare this for you. I love their ideas and I think it will be a great product.

This opportunity is for anyone who is NOT a current print or online editor.

Please click the link below and give us your top choices for the spreads that will be in this issue of the Directive:

Summer work

 Hi Everyone!!

I hope you had a great summer. I sure did. Trips to Minnesota, Colorado and Port Aransas for the Reeves family this year. Photos down below of our travels.

Hey - I could use some help before school starts. My room is pretty close to being done, but I have a few tasks I could use you. Especially if you like to paint. That back room still needs to be painted. I could also use you to work on cameras, cleaning computer stuff, and just generally helping me get things ready for the school year.

All editor applicants - especially those that want executive, managing, and EiC consideration, you also have some planning to do for the start of the year. You need to come up with get-to-know you activities for the first 3 classes (3 A and 3 B days). These games often run too short or too long....we need to better plan those this year. You don't have to be in my room to do that planning, but you do need to get started. Contact each other and get things rolling. I need to know what supplies you need by next Thursday.

Here is when I will be in my room and you can come and help:

Friday, August 4 from 9 am to 3:30 pm

Thursday, August 10 from 9 am to 4 pm

Friday, August 11 rom 9 am to 4 pm

Drop ins are welcome, but don't bother coming after 2:30 pm....things will either be done, or we might be finishing for the day if things are finished.

The back room must be painted this Friday or next Thursday. If it isn't painted by then, it won't be done. We need to get it done....hint, hint, hint....

Hope to see you soon.
