11. Can we do this for events on our campus on a daily basis?

12. How can you help make this a reality?

Finally,

It's reflection time. Please write at least two paragraphs on the following prompts on your blog:

13. What is the most important thing you have learned this semester being on newspaper staff?

14. What can you do next semester to continue your scholastic journalism career in a fulfilling and positive way?

15. What suggestions do you have to improve any part of this class? For example, you could address editor/staff relations, editor/editor relations, staff relations with the advisor, how we can better serve our community, direct suggestions on the newspaper itself, equipment or supplies we might need, computer program instructions you need, or even stories we should cover. I am open to anything. Part of my job is to make this a positive experience, yet it is also an educational opportunity for all of you and the other part of my job is to teach you new skills.

If you do not write enough, I refuse to give you a 100. PERIOD. Please make sure you write enough. A sentence or two is NOT ENOUGH!! I will not reward you with a 100 for garbage. No matter how much I want to be Santa Clause and give everyone a 100, I can turn into a Scrooge really fast when I see half-ass effort on this reflection.

Camera check out procedures - posted 12/5/23

This morning when I looked in the camera lockers I found the following issues:

Camera Kit #22 is missing and not checked out

1 8mm fisheye lens was in a storage container for a 10-20 mm lens

1 8mm lens was checked out to Austin, I suppose that was the one in the storage container

1 8 mm fisheye lens is missing and not checked out

Mars has a 50mm 1.2 checked out, but it is actually in the locked in the right place

Slyder and Austin both have a 24-70mm 2.8 ($1500) checked out, but there is one in the locker - no idea who has it

1 Canon 70-200 2.8 ($1800) is missing and not checked out

Camera kit #37 (Slyder checked out) is sitting in the back of the room and is complete

Camera kit's #33 (Nick checked out) and #35 (Austin checked out) are empty and are in the shelves outside of the lockers

There were 2 lenses on the wrong shelves.

There was one lens (50 1.2 - $2800) that was put into the storage container sideways and was laying funny on the shelf. It was not close to the edge but it was still something that could have rolled or fallen off the shelf if someone had bumped the wall or slammed the doors somehow.

This happens nearly every single day.

We need to do a better job of making sure we are tracking who has what equipment and where it is at any given time. It takes 2 minutes to properly check things in and out. If you need help learning where equipment belongs or how to store it properly, please ask me. I have been and continue to be frustrated with how the camera equipment is being handled by newspaper students. Please do better!!
